A systems problem at the airport's air traffic control meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the hub.

Flight operations have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were halted because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Flyers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as knock-on effects are cleared.
