Democrats Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Capital Punishment

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced outrage after former President Donald Trump accused a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be arrested and punished "through capital punishment" following their publication of a disputed video.

The Recording That Provoked the Controversy

The clip, published on Tuesday, features six Democratic lawmakers who in the past served in armed forces or security capacities.

"Similar to us, you all took an pledge to safeguard and support this constitution," the officials declared in the 90-second video. "Currently, the risks to our democratic foundation don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can decline improper directives, you can refuse unlawful commands, you should decline illegal orders. No one has to follow commands that break the legal system or our national charter."

Donald Trump's Incensed Reply

The video message reportedly trigger a furious response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump posted on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he stated: "This represents really serious, and Risky to our United States. Their statements cannot be enabled to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Officials React

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Top Democrats published a joint statement denouncing the comments.

"Political violence has no position in this nation," they stated. "Elected officials who were featured in the video all served our country with tremendous national pride and excellence. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's appalling and harmful death threats against elected officials, and call on GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in communication with security officials "to ensure the safety of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these extreme online messages and retract his violent rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the statement added.

Representatives' Strong Response

The officials who were featured in the video also published a response.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and defense specialists who care for this country and made an oath to safeguard and uphold the founding document of the United States," they said. "This commitment is permanent, and we plan to honor it. No threat, pressure, or call for violence will deter us from that sacred obligation."

"The significant point is that the former president deems it subject to penalty by death for us to repeat the legal requirements," they added. "Our service members should know that we have their support as they execute their vow to the founding principles and responsibility to follow only proper directives. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our duty."

They continued: "Every American must unite and censure the former president's calls for our death and ideological conflict. This is a period for ethical certainty."

More Political Comments

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's remarks and posted on online networks: "We must be absolutely clear: the President of the United States is calling for the death of government members."

He stated: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. All senators, all representatives, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should denounce this immediately and without qualification."

The Conservative official justified Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "sedition", labeling the video as "extremely improper", adding: "This represents very risky, you have prominent officials of the government telling troops to defy commands, I think that represents historic in American history."

The GOP official also allegedly told the press that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the crime of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to parse the terminology and decide all that."

Administration Reaction

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when inquired by a journalist, "Is the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson answered: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the president is addressing," the official declared. "We see active officials of the US Congress who conspired to arrange a digital communication to personnel of the national defense, to active duty service members encouraging them to defy the executive's lawful orders."

She stated: "The purity of our defense system rests on the command structure, and if that chain of command is violated, it can cause people getting killed, it can result in confusion, and that is exactly what these members of Congress ... are essentially encouraging."
