Fast bowler Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Problems.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the ground during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler pulled up with his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

The England team stated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time off the field to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has already lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out of the third Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 with the bat as one of just three English batsmen to get into double digits.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, at the end of that over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
