Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign which brought continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead any other side within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding the specific conditions must arise to draw him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “No longing for management; No desire to be under bad weather through long matches; I'm glad to skip interviews multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits in the building. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. The team has suffered a string of losses across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, a player he signed during his tenure, and the effect at the club. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Handling this individually is challenging. Overwhelming.”
