The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
